Why Frigate and local recording
Frigate is open-source NVR software that records locally, on your own equipment, so footage does not depend on someone else's cloud or a per-camera subscription. The retention period is calculated in advance (number of cameras, image quality and number of days) so storage does not run out.
AI detection reduces false alarms and lets you search footage by object: person, vehicle, animal. Processing runs locally, on site.

How much does maintenance cost, and what if something breaks?
Maintenance is €50 a month. With it, labour is free (even if several cameras fail), software repairs are free, and I cover equipment damage (cameras or other equipment) up to €100 per fault. Whatever is above that is paid by the client at purchase price. Example: 5 cameras fail and the damage is €500, the client pays €400 and I pay €100, with free labour. If you do not want monthly maintenance, labour is about €100 per camera, a software fix (for example un-freezing a camera that keeps resetting) is about €20, and the client pays for the equipment at purchase price. Faults are rare, and you can also choose to pay afterwards, only when a fault actually happens.
Who pays for a fault, and how do I know everything is fair?
After every fault you get a written report with an analysis: what failed, the cause and what is charged, with or without maintenance. If the cause is my system (for example a bug in software I set up and delivered, not a hardware failure of the camera), I fix it free of charge. If the cause is outside my system, hardware or software, the cost goes through maintenance, or through payment afterwards if you do not pay for maintenance.
